A Phuket woman has taken to social media to criticise the local police, who she says have been slow to take action against a Latvian man who allegedly punched her in the face.
30 year old Thai woman Tassanee Udomdej says she was assaulted by the Latvian on Soi Phuyai Nuay, off Patak Road (the back road) in Karon, at around 6.30pm on Saturday, August 10.
She says she reported the assault to Karon Police but is dissatisfied with their failure to take action against the Latvian. She has now taken her grievance to social media, where she also shares a copy of her police report and medical report, while asking netizens for advice on next steps.
Ms Tassanee says the man who assaulted her is the ex-boyfriend of a friend of hers and had initially approached her to ask about his ex. The victim says the Latvian appeared drunk and when she refused to tell him where her friend was, he punched her in the face.
After filing her police report, Ms Tassanee followed up with officers the next day, at which point she was reportedly told that they considered the offence a minor one as she had not been seriously injured.
In her social media post, the Thai woman explains that she is seeking justice as she can’t allow foreigners to harm Thai citizens in Thailand. She is also demanding an apology from the Latvian man, saying she doesn’t want him to cause any more problems for her or her friends.
According to the Phuket News report, the man continues to frequent the local area, prompting Ms Tassanee to feel concerned for her safety. Meanwhile, netizens are also questioning the authorities’ handling of the case.
