Chalong Pier, in the southern end of Phuket, is to undergo significant renovation and a makeover, including the installation of 120 additional CCTV cameras and an “artificial intelligence” system. The project has been confirmed by Thiwat Sridokbua from the Phuket Provincial Administration Organisation, according to a Phuket Express report. The cost of the renovation has not been announced.

Chalong Pier has been a major step off point for island day trips around Phuket and an Anchorage for local yachts.

“We are planning to renovate Chalong Pier in order to improve service and safety for tourists. This will be a big change for the pier. We want to turn the pier into the busiest marine tourism pier in Phuket. The renovation might take at least 2 years.”

The project includes plans to improve security at the pier and change the boat parking system to improve the appearance of the pier.

“One of the plans is to include an AI System and adding more CCTV cameras with security control rooms. Long tail boats and speedboats will be parked in lines by installing parking buoys. This will make the pier more beautiful and not damage coastal biology system.”
