A former professional motorbike rider from France has sustained minor injuries in a collision with a Russian motorbike rider in Phuket. The Phuket Express reports that recently retired Eric Teboul was involved in an accident while riding a motorbike on the Kamala – Surin beach road on Wednesday.

It’s understood a Russian motorbike driver lost control while trying to negotiate a curve in the road, swerving into the opposite lane and colliding with Mr Teboul. The Russian motorbike rider has been named as Oleg Afanasenko.

Police arrived on the scene to find two damaged motorbikes and Mr Teboul with a broken ankle. Officers have carried out alcohol testing on both drivers and neither were found to have alcohol in their system.

The Phuket Express reports that Mr Teboul is having his ankle treated and is expected to make a full recovery. He is a renowned motorbike racer in France and has broken many records, earning him the nickname Rocketman.
