More violence in Patong

The rise in violence in Patong continues to pose a problem, with more incidents reported over the weekend.

On Saturday, September 14, a fight broke out between 3 Middle Eastern men, while in a separate incident, a ladyboy struck an Indian man on the head with a mobile phone, splitting his forehead open.

According to a Phuket News report, the fight between the 3 Middle Eastern tourists broke out on Bangla Road, just after 7am.

It’s understood those involved had been drinking heavily. Eye witnesses report seeing two of the men arguing, before the disagreement escalated into physical violence. Meanwhile, the third man tried unsuccessfully to separate his friends. One of the men then punched the other, with the victim falling to the ground unconscious.

The Phuket News reports that a local man, named only as Mr Phisit, filmed the violence and his footage shows the third man trying to break up the fight between his friends. Other people eventually came to the rescue and the unconscious man was taken to Patong Hospital.

The police have not commented on the altercation and it is unclear what caused it.

Meanwhile, earlier the same morning, a 27 year old Indian man had his head split open by a ladyboy who hit him with a mobile phone. That incident took place near Patong Police Station, at around 6.30am.

According to the victim, he met the ladyboy, who has been named as Athit Saengsuk, near Bangla Road, and they went to the Ko Daeng Seafood restaurant on nearby Rat-U-Thit Road (second road from the beach).

Somehow, an argument broke out between them, which culminated in Athit using a mobile phone to strike the Indian man on the forehead. He then filed a police complaint.

Wisanu Chumee from Patong Police says witnesses reported seeing the pair arguing in front of the restaurant. It’s unclear what started the argument, but police continue to question witnesses and review evidence from the scene as part of their investigation.
