And a Patong Hill road update under this story too…
Work is being ramped up on the road running alongside Phuket Airport in order to have it ready by the end of this month. The Phuket Express reports that Vice Governor Pichet Panapong inspected the work being carried out on the 4031 road, also known as Mud Dok Khao or Airport Road, in the northern district of Mai Khao.
Pichet was accompanied by Yuttana Pitak, Phuket Highway Office Chief, during his inspection. The Vice Governor says the work is currently 11% behind schedule and efforts are ongoing to accelerate it in time for the peak season.
“The construction started on March 10 of this year and was scheduled to be finished on October 5 of this year which will be in total 210 days of work. However, the work is behind schedule. The construction is being rushed to be completed by the end of this month. This is the second road leading to the airport area.”
And while we’re on roadworks, a quick update about Patong Hill – the roadworks on the section of the Patong Hill road that collapsed in September is progressing slowly, but surely. The new bank of soil that will form the foundation for the repaired road is 3 – 4 metres from the road level, having been built up again from the bottom of the hill. Best guess for reopening? Maybe mid-January?
One of the alternative routes opened, briefly, on the weekend. It is long and circuitous and meanders up the same hill to the north of the current Patong Hill road route. It is not much more than a former one way goat track with a new concrete topping. It is unlikely to form much of an alternative once the newly repaired Patong Hill road route reopens.
