A Russian man has died after jumping from the roof of a building in Phuket, in what the authorities have determined as suicide.
The 20 year old man jumped from the roof, on the 7th floor of a condo building in Chalong on Saturday, August 10, landing in a construction site next-door.
Chalong Police were alerted at around 11.30am and arrived on the scene to find rescue workers from the Phuket Ruam Jai Rescue Foundation, along with a medical team from Vachira Phuket Hospital.
Police spoke with an unnamed Turkish tourist, who told officers he’d been playing in the pool with his son and noticed a man standing near the edge of the roof. The man was wearing black shorts with no shirt.
The Turkish man says he turned back to continue playing his son and when he looked back again, the man had disappeared and he realised he had jumped. The tourist alerted the police immediately.
According to a Phuket News report, the Russian man had rented the condo from another Russian national. The authorities are now liaising with his friends as part of their investigation and will then release the man’s body to his family.
