Phuket police are searching for a truck driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of an American expat.
Khaosod English reports that 60 year old Gregory Ludwig was riding a Suzuki motorbike in the northern Thalang district, when an oncoming truck rounded a corner in front of him, knocking him off his bike. It’s understood the truck then went over Mr Ludwig’s head, killing him, before fleeing the scene.
The incident happened on Thepkrasattri Road, at around 7.30pm yesterday, January 11. According to the report, Mr Ludwig had just left a hotel in the northern sub-district of Mai Khao where he worked as a director of recreation.
Sornthip Chukaew from Tha Chatchai Police Station attended the scene, accompanied by rescue workers. However, Mr Ludwig was declared dead at the scene and his body has been sent for an autopsy.
Officers are now examining CCTV footage of various locations near the scene in a bid to track down the truck driver and initiate legal proceedings. They are also coordinating with the US Embassy and the American man’s family.
