Last night, a Filipino female tourist was injured when thunderstorms and strong winds caused a sugar palm tree to fall onto her car in Phuket Province.
The incident took place on Highway No. 402, Thepkrasattri Road (outbound), opposite the Thalang office of the Provincial Electricity Authority in Thalang District, about 2 kilometres north of the Heroine’s Monument.
Rescuers promptly took the injured tourist to Thalang Hospital and cleared the road after traffic was blocked.
A number of summer storms arrived on the island, from the east, just after sunset last night. The storms mostly affected the north of the island. The region directly north of Phuket also had some heavy downpours in the early evening.
