A Swedish man who overstayed his Thai visa by 113 days was arrested at Phuket Airport, according to a Phuket News report.
Immigration officers at the airport apprehended the 41 year old unnamed man, who now faces a maximum fine of 20,000 baht, plus deportation and being banned from Thailand for 5 years. He was taken to Sakhu Police Station for legal processing.

The current fine for overstaying in Thailand is 500 baht per day. However, the Immigration Bureau’s “Good Guys In, Bad Guys Out” policy states that a person arrested for an overstay of less than a year will be deported and blacklisted from returning for 5 years.
Someone arrested for an overstay of more than a year faces deportation and being blacklisted for 10 years.
Meanwhile, foreigners who turn themselves in for having overstayed are treated relatively leniently, according to the Phuket News report. On top of the daily fine, a person who surrenders for having overstayed more than 90 days but less than a year will be deported and blacklisted for 1 year.
Foreign nationals who overstay their visa by more than a year but less than 3 years will be banned for 3 years, while those who overstay by more than 3 years but less than 5 will be banned for 5 years.
A person who overstays by more than 5 years will receive a 10 year ban.
