The first direct flights linking Phuket and the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, will begin operating from May. TTR Weekly reports that low-cost carrier Vietjet will launch the service, making trips between both destinations more affordable and cutting down on travel time.

It’s understood that a number of Hanoi-based travel agents are planning a “familiarisation trip” to Phuket, which is being arranged by the company which handles Vietjet’s ground services on the island.

Flights are expected to commence on May 19, with a flying time of around 3 hours. The flight to Phuket will depart Hanoi at 11.35, landing in Phuket at 14.40. The return flight will leave Phuket at 15.45, touching down in Hanoi at 18.35.

Vietjet is currently offering a 50% discount on fares until May 5, applicable for travel dates up to December 12. The airline currently operates the only direct service between Phuket and the southern Vietnamese city of Ho Chi Minh. The carrier also operates services between Vietnam and Bangkok and Chiang Mai.
