Police in Phuket are investigating another violent assault on a Kuwaiti tourist in Patong.

The incident took place early on Tuesday morning, August 13, with the victim requiring hospital treatment following the attack.

According to the report, 32 year old Naeaaf Al Otajbi was attacked near the northern end of Bangla Road, just before 7.20am. A passerby who witnessed the attack alerted Patong Police Station.

Police officers checked CCTV footage of the area and arrived on the scene to find the Kuwaiti man, who appeared dazed, sitting at the side of the road. He told officers he had been walking back to his accommodation when 2 men approached and physically attacked him.

It’s understood the victim was hit on the head a number of times, with his attackers then kicking him in the head and body after he fell to the ground. CCTV footage also appears to show at least one of them stamping on the victim’s head.

The footage shows one man appearing from behind the victim as he walks along the road, while a second man, thought to be a motorbike taxi driver based on what he was wearing, runs from the other side of the road and joins in the attack. A third man can then be seen running over, although he is not seen participating in the attack.

The 3 men fled the scene following the attack, with the motorbike taxi driver seen crossing back to the other side of the road.

Rescue workers from the Phuket Kusoldharm Foundation treated Mr Otajbi at the scene and he was then transferred to Patong Hospital for additional treatment. Once he was released from hospital, the tourist filed an official complaint at Patong Police Station.

It is not clear what the motive for the attack might have been and there have been no further details provided on the identities of Mr Otajbi’s attackers.
