International tourists’ activity has picked up due to the continuous scaling down of Covid-19 restriction measures around the globe. Online booking platform Agoda reported that Bangkok was the most popular destination among tourists globally for their pick in Asia for the rest of 2022.

Pattaya City was listed as the eighth most popular destination.

Agoda reported their findings after compiling data on room bookings made from May to August this year.

The data confirmed that, according to their bookings, Bangkok was the number one choice for an Asian city destination, drawing interest from foreign tourists around the world.

“Thailand’s near-complete lifting of Covid travel restrictions and disease control measures are part of the reason for the city’s popularity. Nightlife venues, beaches, cultures and myriad foods await tourists who visit Thailand.”

The Top 2, 3 and 4 spots in Agoda’s most popular Asian destinations were…

2. Jeju island, South Korea

3. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

4. Tokyo, Japan

Pattaya City was the 8th most popular destination in the Agoda list, owing to it being a seaside city “renowned for its nightlife scene”.

“Pattaya was also appreciated for its sandy beaches, delectable food offers and gorgeous hotels.”

According to Thailand’s national news PR department, Thailand’s tourism attractions are by no means clustered in just Bangkok and Pattaya.

“Several other destinations – Chiang Mai and Phuket to name a few – are also highly rated by travellers. As hosts to the tourists, people in Thailand are encouraged to take care of existing tourist attractions and seek new experiences that can be offered to travellers.”

“This should be pursued while adequately meeting health requirements. The gradual revitalisation of holiday-making worldwide presents Thailand with a good opportunity to attract tourism income and thus revive its economy.”

Destinations like Penang and Hong Kong, even Singapore, were beaten by some of the newer destinations that were considered the ‘hot spots’ for Asian tourism.

Here is the list of Asia’s most popular city for bookings this year…
