British man looking to raise 250,000 pounds to repatriate after fall from Phi Phi balcony

A young British man, 23 year old Kieran Martin, suffered a traumatic fall from a hotel balcony while on a three-week vacation in Thailand with his partner, Shauna May. The pair were staying on Koh Phi Phi at the time. An explanation of the fall has not been revealed.

Kieran fell three storeys and fractured his pelvis, which caused internal bleeding and required life-saving surgery at Bangkok Phuket Hospital. Although the surgery was successful, the couple has run out of money to pay for Kieran’s medical bills and need to raise up to £250,000 to get him home for a second operation.

Shauna explained on a JustGiving page that Kieran currently has external pelvic fixations and cannot move from a lying down position. He requires a second operation to insert internal fixations before he can begin the long recovery process and sit on a flight home.

The couple has received quotes ranging from £170,000 to £250,000 for an air ambulance to transport Kieran home, but they are unable to afford the hefty bill.

The couple’s insurance company has yet to provide any financial assistance, leaving them in limbo with rising hospital bills and no means to get home. Kieran’s family has already exhausted their savings paying for his medical bills, and the hospital is pressing for additional payments.

Furthermore, the longer Kieran’s second operation is delayed, the greater his chance of infection, and he cannot begin rehabilitation until the surgery is complete.

Shauna emphasised that Kieran’s mobility being restored as soon as possible is vital for his career as a personal trainer and his physical and mental well-being. She expressed her heartbreak at seeing the person she loves the most suffer and pleaded for help to get them home.
