Thailand continues to move closer to enshrining marriage equality in law, according to a report from the National News Bureau of Thailand. The Bill has already been approved by the Cabinet before it is now presented to the parliament.

The Thailand Pride Committee and the LGBTQ+ network has expressed their gratitude by submitting a letter to the committee considering the marriage equality bill. The process is around 70% complete, according to the government and is expected to be fully complete within a month.

At that stage, a draft law will be submitted to the Senate for consideration. In its deliberations, the committee has recognised that marriage equality is a right currently denied to the LGBTQ+ community, despite the fact that many of the community’s couples have been co-habiting for years.

Thailand Pride is calling on the government to enshrine marriage equality in law by the end of the year. The bill, which consists of 4 drafts, signifies significant progress for marriage and family in Thailand, promoting greater equality for all.
