Today and tomorrow… play “dodge the rain”. There are some rain clouds lurking to the island’s south, but whether they reach Phuket or not is anyone’s guess. Whilst we’re guessing, plenty of sunshine with a high chance of rain later today and into tomorrow. Winds will be building over the weekend, out of the west, but mostly light and variable today. Welcome to the longest day of the year for 2024 in Phuket. More hours of daylight today for the summer solstice. You are being rewarded with rain and high winds along the west coast – sorry. Rain will be relatively frequent today with the westerly winds peaking during the afternoon, up to 25 kph. The winds will abate and veer to the south west over the weekend with less rain and, hopefully, a bit more sunshine. The last day of the month and, still, the hot weather prevails without much respite in sight. Moderate to occasionally strong north westerly winds set the scene today and will abate over the rest of this week, but lashings of sunshine for the island until at least Sunday. The air quality situation continues to be mostly ‘moderate’ but a lot better than most other popular locations in Thailand. So yesterday’s ‘random shower’ did eventuate around midday in the middle of the island – Phuket Town, Kathu – and was brief as forecast. Might get the same later today, perhaps in the evening. Just watch out for the looming dark clouds heading your way. Otherwise a hot and sunny day with some fresh north westerly winds. The prevailing wind today is kicking up some big surf from the Andaman Sea making swimming conditions quite dangerous for most swimmers. Air quality is slightly improved from yesterday. Whilst this patch of hot and dry weather continues, and the dams get lower and lower, the countdown is on for the annual wet season. Will it start tomorrow? Or next month? Or…? Statistically, the rains usually start in the last weeks of April and, on average, May has twice the amount of rain, compared to April.
At this stage there is no rain on the horizon other than a short, random summer storm which really can’t be forecast anyway. Air quality has returned to ‘moderate’ today, the winds are light to moderate, mostly from the west but tending north-westerly tomorrow. Top temperature today is 34.

A warning from the Thai Meteorological Department yesterday about an extended heatwave for Thailand, perhaps beyond Songkran this year. Beautiful weather, and a great forecast, over the next four days or so. Fine and hot thought the forecast period with some high cloud today and over the weekend, clearing to pure blue skies on Monday. Today will be hot with some cloud around. Tomorrow will be even hotter with fewer clouds and a fresh easterly wind – that’s a quick summary. After a few spurts of rain in some locations around the island during the night, the same mixed weather pattern will repeat today, with some high cloud around, coastal sea breezes and a top of 33. Tomorrow will be sunnier with moderate to fresh easterly winds and a top of 35 degrees. Better air quality report today and should improve, again, for tomorrow.

Another hot day but with plenty of high cloud cover. Light and variable winds make it a great day offshore, although there will be some north westerly sea breezes along the west coast during the afternoon. The air pollution report is the worst in a long time, although the afternoon se breeze may improve the situation. But the air here in the south is many times better than Bangkok or northern Thailand today. North easterly winds will return again from late Saturday into Sunday. We’re heading into a very settled weather pattern over the next four or so days with a low chance of rain. There will still be a bit of cloud around but also lashings of sunshine during this period. Wind from the north-east, 29 degrees, clean air and a few clouds – it could be yesterday all over again. BUT there will be a lower chance of rain today and the fresh north-easterly winds have moderated a bit today. There will be some early sunshine and the higher chance of clouds, and even rain, later in the day. Excellent air quality around the island today and a top of 29 degrees. Similar for tomorrow.

Less rain today but more will return on Wednesday and Thursday, according to the forecast. Occasionally fresh north-east to easterly winds today, abating later in the day. A perfect ‘good’ score for the air quality monitoring stations on the island today. A top temperature of just 28 today.

But your krattong may get wet even before it reaches the water as light rain may persist through most of today, although the forecast shows it easing up later in the afternoon, and perhaps returning in the evening. A perfect ‘green’ score for the air quality on the island today. Moderate north easterly winds will increase up to 20 kph tomorrow and tend more easterly. A top temperature today of 29 degrees.

THe winds have swung around to the north east, indicating the high-season weather is on the way. But we’ve still got some rain to come, and just as well, Phuket’s water storage is still low for this time of the year. There will be some rain later today after a mostly dry and pleasant morning on the island. Light to moderate north easterly winds, freshening a little bit tomorrow. Rain continuing through to Tuesday when it should start easing up. A top today of only 28 degrees, 29 tomorrow.

Another perfect start to a Phuket day but with a threat of some rain later in day – keep your eyes on eastern skies to see what floats in across Phang Nga Bay. Light to occasionally moderate north easterly winds which will continue for the next three of four days. But the forecast is for increased rain activity on Sunday and Monday.
