Tropical Storm ‘Sonca’ weakens to heavy rains in north east Thailand

The tropical storm ‘Sonca’ has weakened considerably since crossing the Vietnamese coastline yesterday. This from the Thai Meteorological Department…

“The moderate high-pressure system covers upper Thailand while the low-pressure cell downgraded from SONCA covers southern Laos and Cambodia. Cool weather with isolated rain is likely in the upper country and strong wind is possible in the Northeast.”

“At the same time, the monsoon trough lies across the middle South of Thailand with continuous rainfalls and isolated heavy rains in the South. People should beware of the severe condition that may cause flash floods and overflows, especially along the foothills near waterways and lowlands. The strengthening wind and waves in the lower Gulf and the Andaman Sea are 1-2 meters high and above 2 meters high in thundershowers.”

Areas in parts of north east Thailand and central Thailand remain flooded as rain and floodwaters from the last few weeks still make their way to to lower-lying areas in the country.
