A Chinese man, embarrassed by the behaviour of two Chinese women unknown to him, has coughed up for their restaurant bill after the two fled the upscale Bangkok restaurant without paying.

It’s understood that the women dined at the About Beef Lava Grill in Bangkok on the night of April 12 and then fled without paying their bill, which was over 2,600 baht.

The restaurant owner took to social media, sharing video footage that shows the women, one wearing a black dress, the other in white, fleeing the premises and speeding off in a car.

In his post, the owner pleaded with the women to come back and pay their bill, saying the staff in charge of their table would otherwise have to cover it.

The video footage and accompanying post quickly went viral on Chinese social media and a Chinese man who was embarrassed by his fellow citizens’ behaviour turned up at the restaurant to pay their bill.

The restaurant owner took to social media again, posting a photo of the Good Samaritan as he handed over the cash. He did not share his name, but said he spoke a little Thai and explained that the restaurant’s post had gone viral in China.

The Chinese man said he was embarrassed on behalf of the women and wanted to pay their bill so the restaurant or its staff didn’t have to take a financial hit.
