A fire broke out at a petrol station in northeast Thailand after a truck driver lost control and crashed into a petrol bowser/petrol pump. 2 people were injured in the blaze on Saturday, June 15.
According to police, the driver of a pickup truck lost control of his vehicle, crashing into a petrol dispenser at a petrol station in the Nok Muang sub-district, Surin province. The collision set fire to the bowser, which quickly spread to a second bowser, causing all workers at the petrol station to flee.
One worker and the truck driver were injured in the blaze. The worker has been named as 43 year old Anocha Luempit, who was struck by one of the petrol pumps as he was refuelling a vehicle.
According to Anucha, who sustained burns to his legs and arms, the fire took hold within seconds of the truck colliding with the bowser. He says he and his colleagues ran for their lives.
Meanwhile, the injured pickup driver was taken to Surin Hospital, with police still waiting to interrogate him and decide on legal action.
An eyewitness named as 26 year old Witthawat Hitayaso recounts seeing the truck approaching the petrol bowser at speed before colliding with it, causing the fire to break out. He adds that he originally thought the driver had entered the station to refuel but believes he was simply driving too fast and lost control of his vehicle.
