A flight from Kuala Lumpur to Bangkok was forced to return to the Malaysian capital due to a technical issue involving cabin pressurisation.

According to a report in the New Straits Times, Malaysia Airlines flight MH780 had already entered Thai airspace when an issue with the cabin pressure was detected. The crew made the decision to alter course, returning to Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

The model of the plane was an Airbus A330-200, a mid-size, twin aisle passenger jet with an excellent reputation for safety.

Malaysia Airlines has confirmed the incident, saying the aircraft landed safely in Kuala Lumpur.

“The operating pilots initiated an emergency descent, although cabin altitude was not exceeded and passenger oxygen masks were not deployed. The aircraft remained stable and returned to KLIA where it safely landed at 8.18pm.”

Malaysia’s flagship carrier says it remains committed to passenger safety as its highest priority.
