Police in Pattaya have arrested two Ugandan women after a Canadian man accused them of theft.

Khaosod English reports that the women, named only as 38 year old Mariam and 28 year old Sheebah, were detained at a hotel in south Pattaya, on Monday, June 17.

The arrest came after a Canadian tourist, identified only as Mr Khalid, filed a police report at Bang Lamung Police Station, alleging the women had robbed him while he was asleep during the night of Monday, June 10.

According to Mr Khalid, he had invited the women to his hotel room on Pattaya-Na Kluea Road that evening, paying them 2,000 baht each. He later fell asleep and on waking up, he realised the women were gone and so was 90,000 baht in Thai and foreign currency that he had placed in the safe in his room.

The women are being charged with “jointly committing theft at night”, a charge they deny. They say they only went to the Canadian’s room to give him a massage. However, the police say the CCTV footage they’ve seen tells a different version of events.
