Police at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport have arrested two women who allegedly drugged and robbed a German tourist visiting the Thai capital.
It’s understood the German man reported the crime as he was preparing to leave Thailand. He had previously filed a report with Hua Mak Police Station in Bangkok following the incident, but no progress had been made in the investigation.
Khaosod English reports that the man told Tourist Police at Suvarnabhumi that he had been drugged and robbed of his belongings, which included cash, credit cards, and a camera. According to Pongpichet Nilchan of the Tourist Police, the German said the culprits were a transgender woman and her female friend.
Officers subsequently found CCTV footage of the tourist’s condo building that shows the two women following him to his room. They managed to trace the suspects’ whereabouts and yesterday, June 26, arrested 35 year old “Kritsana” and 36 year old Suthasinee, at their home in Bang Bon, Bangkok, on charges of nighttime robbery using a vehicle.
A search of their room uncovered 132 methamphetamine pills, 3.74 grams of crystal meth, and 14 tablets of Alprazolam, known to be a date rape drug. All the evidence was confiscated and sent to investigating officers at Hua Mak Police Station.
It’s understood the two women have confessed to meeting the tourist near a nightlife venue in Sukhumvit. They befriended him before following him to his room and secretly mixing a drug into his drink. When the man fell unconscious, they robbed him, telling officers they used the stolen cash to party and buy drugs.
A background check has revealed that Kritsana has been arrested for previous drug-related offences.
Meanwhile, the German tourist has thanked the police for finally tracking down the culprits.
