The body of a Phuket man has been recovered from the water after he jumped from the Thao Thepkrasattri Bridge yesterday morning, June 13. The bridge runs parallel to Sarasin Bridge that joins the northern end of Phuket island to the Thai mainland.

Khok Kloi Police were notified that someone had jumped from the bridge just after 5am yesterday. They arrived on the scene to find a Phuket-registered Yamaha motorbike parked in the emergency lane, with the key still in the ignition.

Under the seat, they found a mobile phone and wallet, which contained an ID card belonging to 43 year old Jirasak Chaturong, a resident of Moo 4 in Wichit. Beside the bike, officers found a pair of red flip-flops.

Police removed the bike to Khok Kloi Police Station and contacted Mr Jirasak’s family. The Phuket News reports that a search was launched, with local fishermen asked to keep an eye out.

Later that day, at around midday, rescue workers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation located Mr Jirasak’s body floating in the Phang Nga side of the Chong Pak Phra Channel, which separates Phuket from the mainland.

The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination before being released to the dead man’s family.
