Phuket confirms total of 5 road deaths during Seven Days of Danger

Phuket officials have confirmed that 5 people died in road traffic accidents on the island during the recent Seven Days of Danger campaign. The campaign ran during the Songkran holiday period, from April 11 – 17.

The Phuket Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation says the island had a total of 51 road traffic accidents, with 5 fatalities – 4 men and 1 woman – and 51 people injured during that period.

On Monday, April 17, the last day of the campaign, there were two road traffic accidents reported in the Mueang district, with two people injured. There was one accident, with one person injured, reported in Thalang district, and a total of 4 accidents, with 4 people injured in the district of Kathu.

The tally on day 7 of the campaign was 7 accidents, 7 people injured (2 men and 5 women). Officials say most of the accidents were caused by speeding and most of the injured were on motorbikes and not wearing helmets.
