Phuket police are searching for a motorbike taxi driver who allegedly sexually assaulted a German woman.
The Phuket Express reports that a 37-year-old unnamed German tourist filed a report with Phuket City Police just before 4.30am yesterday, February 26. In her report, the woman claims she was walking alone in the Old Town area just before 1.00am.
She decided to take a motorbike taxi to her hotel in the sub-district of Rassada. It’s understood the driver called the hotel to check its exact location. The woman says that while on the journey, the driver then asked her name before suddenly kissing her on the cheek.
He then allegedly touched her genitals and placed her hand on his own, causing the woman to pull her hand back and jump from the bike, slightly injuring herself. The driver then stopped his bike and went back to check on the tourist. However, he was interrupted by a passerby who helped the woman. The driver then fled the scene.
The passerby then helped the German woman to report the matter to the police. The authorities spoke to staff at the woman’s hotel and managed to get the phone number the taxi driver had called from. Officers are now reviewing CCTV footage in their search for the driver.
