A Songkran water fight escalated into a real fight when a hotheaded foreigner failed to be amused by the water play. Footage of the incident on Thaweewong Road near Patong Beach, on April 13, has since gone viral on social media.
The Phuket Express reports that the fight erupted when a foreign tourist travelling on a motorbike taxi became upset at being targeted by another foreigner with a water gun.
According to a Civil Defence Volunteer named as Nopparat Yiwa, a foreigner wearing a black shirt fired his water gun at a shirtless foreigner who was riding by on a motorbike taxi.
Despite the fact that the shirtless foreigner wasn’t hit by the water, it’s understood he became annoyed and a physical fight ensued between both men. Nopparat says his friend tried to intervene to break up the fight but wasn’t successful.
Officers from Patong Police then got involved and managed to break things up, with both men going their separate ways. According to the authorities, neither man has filed a police report and they consider the matter closed.
