The authorities at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport have arrested 4 people from Hong Kong who were allegedly attempting to smuggle 14 kilograms of heroin out of Thailand.
The Bangkok Post reports that the arrests happened on Sunday night, June 23, and were the result of a tip-off. The secretary-general of the Narcotics Control Board has named only 2 of the suspects: Leung Wai Kit and Chun He Chow.
Panurat Lakboon says Mr Leung is believed to be a major drug smuggler, adding that the authorities in both Thailand and Hong Kong discovered that Leung and Chun travelled to the kingdom on Friday, June 21, with the intention of buying drugs.
At around 7pm on Sunday, both men entered Suvarnabhumi to hand over a suitcase to the other 2 suspects, who were waiting at the airport. All 4 were then arrested. On examining the suitcase, officers found 40 bags containing compressed heroin, weighing a total of 14 kilogram.
According to Panurat, Thailand remains a significant part of the chain for international drug smugglers.
