There’s turbulence ahead, but not for drones.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand is implementing a ban on flying drones over Bangkok’s Victory Monument during the period of November 13 – 21. The CAAT has announced the ban as part of enhanced security measures for the forthcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit being held in the capital.

The APEC Summit will be held at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre, kicking off on November 14 and wrapping up on November 19. The no-fly zone for drones encompasses a 19-kilometre radius around Victory Monument, up to a height of 3,000 feet.

According to a Nation Thailand report, anyone found to be in violation of the ban faces a fine of up to 40,000 baht and/or a 1-year prison sentence. It’s understood that military officers will also be given powers to destroy drones in accordance with the Act on Treatment against Aircraft Committing Wrongful Acts.
