Police in Krabi province have arrested a British tourist who smashed a local resident’s glass door when he was drunk. According to a Phuket Express report, the incident happened on Koh Lanta in the early hours of Tuesday morning, June 6. It’s understood the man was angry at having lost his mobile phone.

While some media reports state that the man threw a rock at the door, video footage appears to show him using a bicycle to smash the glass. The woman who lives at the property, named only as 20 year old Ms Kanotha, says the perpetrator was not known to her.

Kanotha has filed a report with Koh Lanta Police, accompanied by video evidence. She says it was around 2.30am when the door was smashed, with the man then walking away.

Police subsequently arrested a 30 year old British national who had arrived on the island after renting a motorbike in Mueang Krabi. He has admitted the offence and told police officers that he was drunk and angry that he had lost his phone.

The man has agreed to pay damages of 30,000 baht, which is what the owner says it will cost to fix the door. In return, Koh Lanta Police have agreed to withhold his name.
