Koh Samui is enjoying a bumper tourism season, with many flights and hotels fully booked, according to local media reports. The whole of southern Thailand tourism has been taking advantage of the smoke and smog problems in Bangkok, central Thailand and northern Thailand over recent months.
During the month of March, Bangkok Airways has operated 43 fully booked flights to the island, which has welcomed over 4,500 visitors a day. Chaweng Beach is proving to be one of the most popular spots, with foreign tourists enjoying sunbathing, water sports, and other activities.
Many hotels on the island report being fully booked until the end of Songkran, or the Thai New Year holiday. Pimphon Thongsuk, hotel manager at Fair House, Koh Samui, says this has been one of the most successful tourism seasons, with many hotels, resorts, and other tourism businesses reporting record profits.
