Six Thai airlines plan to add extra flights to their schedules during next month’s Songkran holiday.
The carriers have all requested permission from the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand for a total of 104 extra flights to meet expected demand and to address the issue of expensive airfares.
Thai Airways, Thai AirAsia, Bangkok Airways, Thai LionAir, NokAir and Thai Vietjet plan to operate extra domestic flights on April 11 and 12 and again on April 15 and 16 (the actual Songkran day is on April 13). Destinations served will include Phuket, Chiang Mai, Samui, Ubon Ratchathani and Khon Kaen, increasing the number of seats on offer by nearly 18,000.
It’s understood that as the flights will operate outside of normal flight times, taking off either late at night or early in the morning, tickets will be discounted by up to 20%.
The CAAT has advised anyone intending to fly over the Songkran holiday to book directly through the airlines’ websites and to double-check the fares on offer to ensure they’re not excessively high.
The authority says it’s continuing to monitor airfares to ensure prices are not inflated during the Songkran holiday. Passengers can report any incidents of over-priced tickets by filing a complaint on the CAAT’s website HERE.
