Bangkok has again proven to be Asia’s foodie central taking out four of the top 10 spots in the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Award for 2023 (along with Tokyo restaurants).
Le Du, a restaurant in Bangkok, has been named the top restaurant in Asia at the 2023 “Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants” awards. The restaurant, run by Thai chef Thitid “Ton” Tassanakajohn, offers a four or six-course tasting menu focused on seasonal Thai ingredients.
The win marks a three-spot rise from last year’s ranking. Another of Thitid’s restaurants, Nusara, also in Bangkok, took the third spot on the list.
Japanese restaurant Sezanne took second place, while last year’s winner, Den, another Tokyo eatery, fell to fourth place. Gaggan Anand, run by the Kolkata-born chef of the same name, based in Bangkok, was ranked fifth. One street food eatery, Bangkok’s Michelin-starred Raan Jay Fai, was named among the winners.
The awards ceremony, held in Singapore’s Resorts World Sentosa, also featured special awards for achievements such as sustainability, with Manila’s Toyo Eatery winning the Sustainable Restaurant Award. Louisa Lim of Singapore’s Odette won the Asia’s Best Pastry Chef award.
In terms of cities with the most wins, Bangkok and Singapore each took nine spots on the list, while seven Tokyo eateries won awards.
Surprisingly, my local Sizzler didn’t make the Top 50 this year!!
