Australian in coma after near-drowning incident at Pattaya

An Australian man who was rescued from drowning at Pattaya Beach remains in a coma. The incident happened shortly after 3.00am yesterday, April 1.

The man has been named as 58 year old Loy Malcolm Ayles. His wife, 45 year old Panadda Ayles, says her husband had smoked two cannabis joints before he suddenly ran into the water at Pattaya Beach, in front of Soi Jomtien 11.

While in the water, his wife says he suddenly disappeared underwater. A witness who could see Mr Ayles was in trouble swam out to rescue him. The Good Samaritan has been named as 48 year old Kittichai Limjamreun.

Kittichai managed to pull Mr Ayles out of the water but by this stage he was unconscious. Rescue workers performed CPR at the scene and he was then rushed to a local hospital, where he remains in a coma.
