A staff member at a resort in Trang, southern Thailand, has found the body of a Chinese man, with multiple stab wounds. Trang Police were notified yesterday afternoon, May 16, after a cleaner found the man’s body in the bathroom of his accommodation.

He was laying face down, wearing a towel, and covered in blood when the body was discovered.

According to a Phuket Express report, 43 year old Zhirui Liu had checked into the resort, in the sub-district of Tub Tieng, with an unnamed Thai woman at 4.15pm on Monday, May 15. He had booked the room for one night only, but when he failed to check out by midday the next day, a staff member went to check his room.

Mr Liu’s body had sustained over 20 stab wounds, including to his chest, and Trang Police say they believe he’d been dead at least 12 hours before his body was found. Officers recovered several empty beer bottles and 6 unused condoms from the area. However, the man’s mobile phone and car were missing.

Police are now looking for the Thai woman who checked into the room with Mr Liu. While officers say they have solid information as to her identity, they have not publicly identified her.

The dead man was a businessman who dealt in the export of rubber and wood in Trang and nearby provinces. He had stayed at the resort on several occasions and according to the Phuket Express report, he also had a house on Koh Lanta, in neighbouring Krabi province.

Mr Liu was married to a Thai woman, with whom he had 3 children.
