The body of a British man who went missing while kayaking in the southern province of Surat Thani has been recovered.

Rescuers located the body of 24 year old Gowribalan Shanghaman in the Rajjaprabha Dam in the district of Baan Ta Khun yesterday.

A search operation had been ongoing since Sunday, February 11, after the Briton fell into the water while kayaking. It’s understood he was not wearing a lifejacket at the time.

Four rescue divers were involved in the search, which was hampered by difficult conditions such as murky water and very low visibility.

The Phuket Express reports that Mr Shanghaman’s body has been taken to a local hospital. The authorities are liaising with the British embassy and the dead man’s family.
