A British man has died after his parachute failed to open after he jumped from a building in Pattaya. 33 year old Nathy Odinson died after ‘base jumping’ from a condo building in Pattaya.

An unnamed friend of the dead man told Bang Lamung Police that they had entered the 29-story condo building without permission on Saturday night, January 27. Odinson planned to jump from the top of the building and film it for his social media page.

Bang Lamung police chief Nawin Sinthurat says the men had brought various pieces of equipment and cameras, including a camera attached to Odinson’s helmet. After preparing the equipment, Odinson jumped from the building. However, his parachute failed to open and he hit a tree on the way down, before plummeting to his death.

The authorities say his friend, who witnessed the tragic incident, is still in shock. It’s understood he had only known Odinson for about 5 months. He told police the dead man enjoyed extreme sports and skydiving in particular.

The Bangkok Post reports that Odinson was living in Pattaya on a student visa and was a skydiving photographer.

Staff at the condo building say he had parachuted off the roof many times without permission. Police plan to interview the building owner as part of their investigation.
