A group of Kuwaiti motorbike riders tried to block Pattaya rescue workers from taking their friend to hospital after he was injured in a road incident. Nation Thailand reports that the men initially feared they would be arrested.

The incident happened around 4.30am yesterday morning, August 9, with dozens of Middle Eastern men trying to block a team from the Sawang Boribun Thammasathan Pattaya volunteer Foundation. The rescuers had arrived at Soi Yensabai in South Pattaya after received reports of a motorbike accident.

At the scene, they found 22 year old Ahmad Jraoaalazmi, an injured tourist from Kuwait. Dozens of his friends, all believed to be Kuwaiti too, had gathered around him and initially tried to block rescuers from taking him to hospital.

According to the report, the men feared they were going to be arrested by police. When the rescue workers explained that they just wanted to take the injured man to hospital, the group eventually relented.

Nation Thailand reports that a Burmese worker, named only as Wai, told police he had seen a man fall off a motorbike in the soi. The man was immediately surrounded by his friends.

Police in Pattaya say they’ve received several complaints from local residents about large groups of Middle Eastern men riding motorbikes at night and creating a disturbance. They allege the men gather in large groups, revving their engines noisily, and holding road races. Some residents have complained about having access to their sois blocked off by parked motorbikes.

Police have asked motorbike rental operators to carefully check the passports and driving licences of renters, and to warn them that they must obey Thai road traffic laws.
