The Thai government has approved an extension to nightlife operating hours, which will apply in certain areas only. The Phuket Express reports that Cabinet approval was confirmed yesterday by Karom Phonphonklang from the Prime Minister’s Office.
It’s not yet known what the new hours will be, although the proposal had been to extend the legal closing time from 2am to 4am. Also not known is when the newly extended hours will take effect or where. However, it’s widely anticipated that popular tourist areas such as Patong will be included in the designated “zones”.
According to the report, the Interior Ministry is expected to provide more information later today. An extension to nightlife opening hours has been discussed on and off for some time now, including by the previous administration.
After taking office, PM Srettha Thavisin put the proposal back on the table in a bid to boost tourism and the economy.
