Officers from Thailand’s Cybercrime Suppression Division have arrested a man on suspicion of making an online death threat against the PM. Thai PBS World reports that PM Srettha Thavisin knows of the threat, after the police made him aware.
The threat, posted on the X platform formerly known as Twitter, expressed disappointment in Srettha for failing to keep to Pheu Thai’s election promises. The man who allegedly posted the threat has not been named but according to the report, he claims to have made the threat in a moment of frustration.
For his part, the PM says he’s leaving the matter for the authorities to handle, adding that he also has faith in his security personnel.
Srettha points out that a government must be open to hearing differing views, including those who disagree. However, he adds that he’d prefer if those who disagree with the government could make their point more constructively, instead of issuing threats.
