The body of an 8 month old baby boy who has been missing for weeks has been recovered from a canal near his home. The discovery came after the boy’s teenage mother admitted the baby had had a seizure and died after falling from her arms as she bathed him. Unsure what to do, she says she disposed of his body in a canal near their home in the central province of Nakhon Pathom, just north of Bangkok.

According to a Thai PBS World report, the mother has offered a public apology and is pleading for forgiveness. “Nim” has asked to be given a second chance, saying she wants to return to school. She has also urged the media to respect her privacy while she faces prosecution.

Nim admits she was not honest during the early stages of the investigation, claiming she was afraid of the police, who she says interrogated her as if she were an adult. She claims she has learnt her lesson about lying, pointing out that she decided to be honest about the baby’s whereabouts, telling police exactly where in the canal she had placed the body.
