A newborn baby boy has been found abandoned at a BTS station in the Chatuchak district of Bangkok. Coconuts.co reports that an eye witness notified police after seeing somebody leaving the baby at the station early yesterday morning, June 12. However, by the time officers arrived, the person in question had already left the station.

Rescue workers located the baby, who had been wrapped in a pink blanket and was crying, at around 3am in the Sena Nikhom BTS station. He had been left by the escalators, near the Phahonyothin Road entrance, according to the Coconuts report.

The baby has been taken to Bhumibol Adulyadej Hospital, where he is now being cared for. On examining the baby, medical professionals determined the mother did not give birth at a hospital as the umbilical cord had been unprofessionally cut.

Police say they will examine CCTV footage from the area and interview potential eye witnesses in an attempt to locate the mother.
