PM Srettha Thavisin has announced the death of another Thai national in Israel. This brings to 21 the number of Thais killed in the attack carried out by Hamas last weekend. Meanwhile, the number of Thais being held hostage by the terrorist organisation has risen to 14.
According to a Bangkok Post report, the PM has not said how the latest Thai victim died. It has been reported that the other 20 fatalities were killed by Hamas militants when they launched their attack on Israel on Saturday, October 7.
The PM says the government continues to work to evacuate Thai nationals caught in the conflict zone. Explaining that while the best options would normally be to evacuate them by boat or car, this isn’t possible, as it would have to be done via the Gaza Strip, which is the scene of the worst violence and extremely dangerous.
Srettha adds that another option could be overland via Jordan.
Meanwhile, the Thai government is sending more personnel to Israel to ensure evacuations can proceed quickly and safely. The first group of 15 Thai nationals have already left Israel and are expected to arrive back in the kingdom at around 11.15am today.
