The owner of a karaoke bar in the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat has been arrested for trafficking minors. The defendant has been named only as 38 year old Ms Yardpirun, according to a Phuket Express report.
Yardpirun’s arrest was the result of a sting operation by officers from the Anti Trafficking in Persons Division on Tuesday, October 24. She has been charged with human trafficking for the purpose of exploitation without consent, involving persons over 15 but less than 18 years.
During her arrest, 3 underage girls were rescued from the venue in the Thung Song district, including one who is related to Yardpirun. It’s understood the victims were lured into prostitution by their employer.
After Yardpirun posted recruitment adverts on social media, mentioning a special service for clients, undercover police officers arrived at the venue, posing as customers. After buying drinks, they were offered a prostitute and condom, with the owner pointing to a specially-prepared room.
It’s understood that following her arrest, Yardpirun has admitted to the charges against her.
