The body of a German “businessman”, missing since July 4, has been found inside a freezer in a rental house in Chon Buri. The Bangkok Post reports that police found the body in a house in the sub-district of Nong Prue, in the district of Bang Lamung last night, July 10.
Hans Peter Ralter Mack, a German property broker living in Thailand, had been missing since July 4, when he left his home in the Swiss Paradise housing estate in Pattaya.
According to his 24 year old Thai wife, named yesterday as “Priyaya”, the 62 year old said he was meeting another property broker, also understood to be a foreigner. She has been named as “Petra”. It’s understood the meeting was related to property sales in Pattaya and on Koh Samui.
According to the Bangkok Post report, detectives found Mr Mack’s body as they carried out a search based on CCTV footage. It included two “foreigners” unloading a freezer from the back of a black pick-up. The scene is now being examined by forensics officers to determine how the German man died.
Theerachai Chamnanmor of Provincial Police Region 2 says investigators have a number of suspects in their sights and believe the property broker’s murder is linked to extortion. It’s understood around 2 million baht had recently been transferred from Mr Mack’s bank account to a bank account held by another foreign national.
The victim’s recent-model Mercedes was found parked outside the CC Condominium building in Nong Prue on Sunday morning. Police found traces of a chemical cleaner inside the vehicle, with officers saying this was likely an attempt to destroy or hide evidence.
It’s understood Mr Mack had been with his Thai partner for around 5 years and had two sons from his previous marriage.
