Pattaya residents complain about lions roaming around streets

Come here kitty, kitty…

Residents in Pattaya have filed a police complaint about a foreign national keeping two lions as pets. One of the lions regularly gets loose and wanders around the neighbourhood, in the district of Banglamung.

The Facebook page PattayaWatchdog has shared photos of the big cats, claiming that residents want the National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation Department to take action.

They would like to see the lions confiscated and taken somewhere more appropriate than their current home in Khaomakok Soi 3. Local residents say they are afraid the presence of the lions is a danger to their children and pets.

Thai PBS World reports that when local journalists visited the property, they found two lions being kept with two Rottweiler dogs. The owner of the house, named only as “Pa” says she bought the male and female lion when they were days old. She claims there has only been one incident where one of the cats got loose and wandered around the neighbourhood.

“Now they are about ten months old. I moved from Sattahip to Pattaya about six months ago. One day, one of them escaped through a faulty electric gate which accidentally opened.”

The woman says the lion’s caretaker was quick to get the lion back onto the property.

This latest development follows a recent story of a lion cub being taken for a car ride around Pattaya. Footage of that incident quickly went viral on social media, with officials now investigating.
