A prisoner who escaped custody by fleeing a hospital where he’d had surgery for a penis infection has been recaptured. Earlier he had some form of ‘penis enlargement’ surgery involving injections directly into the penis.
Yikes!
A 37 year old, Thanaphat Mayod, was found hiding on the roof of the Chon Buri hospital on Sunday, December 10, around 28 hours after he fled the surgical ward.
It’s understood Thanaphat had been admitted to Bang Lamung Hospital with a penis infection caused by injections to enlarge his penis.
He had been serving time for theft in Pattaya Remand Prison and had a year and 10 months left on his sentence. Alas, the penalty for escaping while in detention is up to 3 years’ imprisonment and/or a fine of up to 60,000 baht.
According to the report, Thanaphat was recovering from surgery in a room on floor 7 of the surgical ward. While there, he used pliers – allegedly smuggled in to him by his wife – to cut the chains from his ankles. He then fled the room at around 2am on Saturday, December 9.
His disappearance prompted a search, with officers confident Thanaphat couldn’t have gone far, given the small matter of a urine tube still inserted in his penis. The prisoner was eventually found on the rooftop of the psychiatry ward, just 20 metres from the surgical ward.
Thanaphat has told officers that after cutting the chains on his ankles, he ran into a forest behind the hospital, where he disposed of the pliers. He then climbed a power post up to the roof the psychiatry ward, where he hid in a corner, covering himself with a black bag, until he was eventually found.
His wife, named only as 30-year-old Wassana, has been arrested and charged with helping a prisoner escape custody. She faces a prison term of up to 5 years and a fine of up to 500,000 baht.
