The ex-husband of alleged serial killer Sararat “Am” Rangsiwuthaporn has been charged with helping to destroy evidence, according to Surachate Hakparn, deputy national police chief. Former police officer Withoon Rangsiwuthaporn has already been charged with receiving stolen items, as well as forgery and using forged official documents.
Withoon has been fired from his role as deputy superintendent of Suan Phueng Police Station, in Ratchaburi province. His ex-wife is suspected of killing 14 people by poisoning them with cyanide. An alleged fifteenth victim survived.
Withoon has been charged with helping Sararat dispose of evidence connected to the alleged murder of Siriporn Khanwong. According to Surachate, the suspect’s ex-husband hid the victim’s handbag, before sending it to a friend of Sararat’s, in Phetchaburi province.
Nation Thailand reports that Sararat’s mother and sister-in-law were recently questioned by police, in relation to a parcel Sararat posted to them, which contained Siriporn’s handbag. Under questioning, it was found that neither woman knew what the contents of the parcel related to and police have determined they had no involvement.
Sararat has been in custody since her arrest in Bangkok on April 25, on suspicion of at least 14 murders. The victims are all people who were well known to the suspect and from whom she had borrowed money or who had invested in various schemes run by her.
Meanwhile, Surachate says police are currently questioning up to 5 other people who could be considered witnesses in the case.
