A child has tragically drowned at the Ton Song Preak Waterfall, in the southern province of Phang Nga. The Pattaya News reports that a 6 year old Egyptian girl, on holiday with her family, has drowned after accidentally falling into the waterfall. Following heavy rain in recent weeks the waterfall was in full flow.

The incident happened yesterday, July 26, while the tourists were visiting the waterfall in the Mueang district. District chief Pongsak Wetthayawong was notified of the tragedy by a village headman in the sub-district of Song Preak.

Rescue workers arrived at the scene and took around half an hour to find the girl’s body, which had become lodged between large rocks, according to the report. It’s understood the child was on holiday and was visiting the waterfall with her family, through a tour company.

The report does not name the child, due to her age and out of respect for the family.
