The Thai PM has confirmed that the current visa exemption being offered to tourists from Kazakhstan will be extended. Srettha Thavisin says visa-free entry for Kazakh tourists will be extended for another 6 months, to boost tourism and the economy.
There is still no mention of extending current 30 day visa exemptions for some 50 countries to any longer at this time.
“Each Kazakh tourist spends as much as 75,000 baht on average, while visitors in general spend about 45,000 baht each.”
The arrangement had been due to end on February 29, but will now run until August 31. The Bangkok Post reports that it applies to arrivals holding Kazakhstani passports or equivalent documents.
The scheme was initially introduced in September of last year for both Kazakh and Chinese tourists. A subsequent agreement between Thailand and China made the arrangement permanent for both Chinese visitors to Thailand and Thai travellers to China.
