Another brake failure on Patong Hill.
A small bus carrying 30 Chinese passengers experienced a brake failure while heading down the notorious Patong Hill. The incident occurred last Friday near the Suwan Khiriwong Temple at the bottom of the hill.
Patong Traffic Police were alerted to the situation and arrived at the scene to find the small tour bus stranded on the hill, with the Chinese passengers waiting outside the bus.
The unidentified driver told police he was transporting the Chinese tourists from the airport to a Patong hotel when the bus “suddenly suffered a brake failure”. He was able to manoeuvre the vehicle to the side of the road without a cash and put rocks under the wheels to stop it rolling.
The passengers were safely transported to their hotels by other vehicles as mechanics and police checked over the bus to find why the brakes had failed.
Brake failures and the Patong Hill have been a deadly combination in the past with multiple incidents, many involving Chinese tourists, on the windy road coming down the hill into Patong.
