A British man wanted for gun possession has been arrested in Phuket. The authorities had been seeking the arrest of the suspect, named only as Mr Jamaal, since he allegedly dropped a gun outside a nightclub in Rawai.
The Glock 19 gun appears to have been dropped accidentally and was then found by security personnel at the club, who alerted the police. However, the suspect fled the venue and even managed to leave Thailand the following day.
Phuket Provincial Court then issued an arrest warrant for Mr Jamaal for illegal possession of a firearm and carrying a gun in public. It’s not clear how much time had passed between then and the suspect deciding to return to Thailand, seemingly thinking the matter would have been forgotten.
Chalong Police have confirmed Mr Jamaal was arrested on Monday, November 13, and remains in custody. The authorities say they have since discovered that the suspect is allegedly linked to several crimes in Phuket and has also served time in prison in the UK for drugs and firearms offences.
